With over a 100 companies registered to attend an executive briefing in Dublin covering "The 5 elements of an effective security approach "it can be taken that security is still at the top of organisations IT infrastructure agenda. Sponsored by Citrix, Securewave and Baronscourt, this knowledge event had a guest speaker from Dublin Dental School and Hospital to provide real life experiences on the journey towards obtaining BS 7799.
Speaking at the event, Mr Louis Oley, Managing Director of Securewave said "the introduction by employees of a virus via a USB device or by downloading a software utility from the web can cause untold damage to an organisations reputation and ability to function".
Taking up the insider threat issue, Robert O'Brien, Managing Director of Baronscourt stated "it is important to increase the awareness of security threats with each employee. This is not a one off exercise but a continuous process of communication and monitoring. Frameworks like ITIL and BS 7799 give companies the best approach to laying down a sound and systematic security culture".
The seminar was held on the 29th March 2006 in the Guinness Storehouse, St James Gate, Dublin.
